Snow Day!

Our kids are busy. In addition to their regular school work they have a few extracurricular activities. On Monday nights Autumn has violin lessons and Rose takes ballet and jazz dance lessons. Tuesday afternoons has Duncan taking his ballet lessons. Friday afternoons has Autumn, Skye, and Rose taking piano lessons. In addition Autumn is in the Symphony Orchestra and Liberty is in the Concert Band at Traverse City West High School, which often mean performances outside of the school day.

Well, it is winter in Northern Michigan. When you live at the 45th parallel near Lake Michigan that means snow, lots of it. This winter started off pretty mild with very little snow. Since Christmas we have had quite a few big storms. One weekend we got over 20 inches. We have some dedicated snow plow drivers who try to keep things moving. But still they can’t be everywhere all the time.

I hate to admit it, but there are nights when I am praying just as hard as the kids for a snow day. We live quite a distance from the schools so when there is a snow day that means less time driving on slippery roads, getting to sleep, having a break from the normal routine.

One day off is enough. We all know that there are things that must be done.

The kids want to get back to seeing their friends. My hubby needs the quiet so he can write his sermons and make phone calls (when he is home). We love our time off, but we need our regular schedule to keep on track.

I keep joking that we are having a snowy winter so that we will really appreciate the warm weather in Macau. Steven seems happy that we won’t be taking the snow shovels with us. I am sure though that come Christmas I will miss the white stuff…but just a little.

Blessings,

Martha
